Same-Different is a great game to develop analytic thinking skills and communication skills. Students can’t see each other’s pictures so they must scan their own picture carefully, ask questions, describe details, and take the role of the other. For example, “The pilgrim in my picture is wearing black shoes. Is your pilgrim wearing shoes?” The game is easy to set up and play. Includes instructions, two Thanksgiving illustrations, a recording sheet, and the answer key for the differences in the two pictures.

Each partner receives a game board with a big bowl of soup and letter or blend game pieces to place on the game board. Partners sit on opposite sides of a barrier so they can’t see each other’s game board or game pieces. Partner A arranges the letter or blend pieces around the different parts of the soup bowl of the game board. Then, using only verbal communication, Partner A describes to Partner B which letter or blend goes on each part of the soup bowl so they can make a match. For example, “Place the upper case C on the part of the soup below the spoon.” When they think they have a match, they compare arrangements and celebrate. This set teaches all letters and a variety of letter blends such as: br, cl, sn, etc. Match Mine is a fun and cooperative way to develop language, communication, cooperation, and perspective-taking skills.
