Partners sit on opposite sides of a barrier so they can’t see each other’s game board or game pieces. Partner A arranges the multiplication grid pieces on each present of the game board. Then, using only verbal communication, Partner A describes to Partner B which multiplication grid goes on each gift so they can make a match. For example, “Put the grid representing four times six on the upper middle gift.” When they think they have a match, they compare arrangements and celebrate. Same-Different is a great game to develop analytic thinking skills and communication skills. Students can’t see each other’s pictures so they must scan their own picture carefully, ask questions, describe details, and take the role of the other. For example, “The elf in my picture is hanging a photo of Santa Claus on the wall. Is your elf also hanging a photo?” The game is easy to set up and play. Includes instructions, two Christmas illustrations, a recording sheet, and the answer key for the differences in the two pictures.
