Brian and Heather Nelsen
Brian and Heather have 30 years of both urban and rural teaching experience at various levels in multiple countries as certified teachers, trainers and coaches. After serving as professors of education in Lakeland, Florida, they moved with their three children to India to teach at the Kodaikanal International IB World School where Brian served as the Prek-8 Principal and Heather as the PYP & MYP Media Specialist and Curriculum Coordinator. While at KIS in India, they used Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures to engage students in learning and actively involved teachers and staff during staff meetings and professional development sessions. They collaborated with Berkley School and other NGOs to provide access to high quality engaging education for rural schools in India. While in India, they also helped to build schools and facilitated teacher training within the Kodaikanal community. Upon returning to Florida, Heather & Brian taught at the Kagan Model School, Berkley Charter, for nine years. Since the beginning of their teaching careers, they have consistently used Kagan Cooperative Learning Structures to provide engaging and transformational learning experiences for all.
