Each partner receives a game board with a birthday cake and word family ending game pieces to place on the game board. Partners sit on opposite sides of a barrier so they can’t see each other’s game board or game pieces. Partner A arranges the word family game pieces on each area of the birthday cake on the game board. Then, using only verbal communication, Partner A describes to Partner B which word family ending goes on each area of the cake so they can make a match. For example, “Put a picture of a word that ends with ‘ash’ in the top right box of the cake.” When they think they have a match, they compare arrangements and celebrate.
