Kagan Structures for Biology

Post by stkinsley » Wed May 24, 2017 8:08 am

I am retiring after 31 years and would love to share the Kagan materials that I have developed and used in my biology classroom with anyone who can use them. My colleagues are fairly “old school” so I have not been able to sway any of them into trying them, even though I have shared my own story of how Kagan structures completely energized and transformed the last ten years of my career.

Here is a sampling of some of the materials that I have:

• Q-Matrix Activities (DNA opener, DNA Structure and Replication, Protein Synthesis, Cell Cycle, Asexual vs. Sexual Reproduction, Photosynthesis and Cell Respiration, Cell Structure)
• Logic Line Ups (Organic Compounds, DNA Scientists, Kingdoms)
• Ten Count (Protein Synthesis…moving from DNA to mRNA to tRNA)
• Fan and Flip (Characteristics of Living Things)
• Mix and Match (Microscopes, Cell Structure)
• Popcorn (Cell Cycle)
• Gallery Walk (Dihybrids, Biochemical Evidence for Evolution)
• Card Sort (Bioethics…genetic engineering)
• Four Corners (Mitosis and Meiosis…is actually Two Sides)
• Concentric Circles (Mendelian Genetics)
• Match Mine (Bacteria vs. Virus, Biogeochemical Cycles)
• Sequencing (Photosynthesis, pH)
• Pairs Check (transport)
• Placemat (Pre-lab for DNA Extraction Lab)

Let me know if you are interested!

I would love to try these resources if you are still able to share them.

Would love these if possible! Would really help for my masters essay about cooperation in science.
